Biography:
Nino Danelia is a professor at Ilia State University and invited professor at Caucasus School of Journalism and Media Management at GIPA. At the same time, she is a doctoral candidate in mass communication at the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of South Carolina. She is currently working on her dissertation on underground media in the Soviet Union. Her primary research interests are in the role of communication and media use in political and civic engagement; aspects of pro-social behavior. Her paper “Internet as the medium for youth political participation in Georgia” was awarded as a top student paper at the AEJMC Southeast Colloquium, 2014.
She has taught undergraduate and graduate classes and has conducted several training courses for Georgian mid-career journalists in diversity reporting, election reporting, parliamentary reporting, etc. She held trainings in media communication for governmental, non-governmental and corporate organizations. Also, She has eight years of experience of working for several newspapers and radio programs as a reporter and editor.
With one foot in civic activism, she is a founder and a member of a "Coalition for Media Advocacy" and a founder and a member of Georgian Women Movement. Danelia also serves as a member of several media and non-governmental organizations, including, the Monitoring Board of Georgian Public Broadcaster, Open Society – Georgia and International Society for Fair Elections. Danelia obtained her B.A., from Tbilisi State Academy of Arts and M.M.C., from Manship School of Mass Communications, Louisiana State University.
