Tinatin was a researcher on Georgian monumental art. She was one of the founders of the Giorgi Chubinashvili Institute of Art History, where she worked until her death, heading the visual arts department and later the medieval visual arts department.
Tinatin was actively involved in efforts to protect cultural heritage as an academic consultant on restoring paintings. She made critical contributions to the study of the history of medieval Georgian wall art and the definition and description of various historical stages in art, schools of painting and individual works. She also wrote several important works on 19th and 20th century Georgian visual arts.
