Heinrich Boell Foundation

The Heinrich Boell Stiftung/Foundation (hbs) is a Green think tank and an international policy network. It is part of the Green political movement that has developed worldwide as a response to the traditional politics of socialism, liberalism, and conservatism.

As a think tank for green visions and projects, we are part of an international network encompassing over 100 project  partners in approximately 60 countries.

About us

Heinrich Boell Foundation Tbilisi Office - South Caucasus Region was established in 2003 in Tbilisi, Georgia. The main goal of the Foundation is to contribute to the democratization process of Georgia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan.

We promote gender equality, democracy and human rights, social and environmental justice. In line with the hbs’ guiding values, we support initiatives, which form and strengthen an inclusive political culture that opens room for public participation on democratic development, socio-ecological transformation and gender democracy. We are part of the global civil society and support local grass-root initiatives that strive for building participatory and justice societies.

Within the framework of democratic political culture and civil society programme direction, hbs, together with our partners, brings pluralistic and critical approaches connected to Soviet and post-Soviet history into the public discourse. Through using a variety of formats i for discussion such as lectures, exhibitions and publications, we support platforms for dialogue on memory politics.

Gender democracy is a cross-cutting issue in all our activities. hbs works actively to support gender equality, including gender aspects of socio-economic development in the political and public discourse.

Ecologically sustainable transformation is among the important topics hbs concentrates on. Together with our partners, we address the most pressing issues of environmental protection on the societal and political levels.

As a regional office, hbs Tbilisi fosters discussions on foreign and security policy as well as dialogue for the peaceful transformation of conflicts
