Education:  Oriental Studies, Modern Indian History, Ph.D. in Gender Studies.

Position: Invited Lecturer, Tbilisi State University.

Research Interests: Postcolonial and Decolonial Studies, Orientalism and Islam, Georgian-Abkhazian Historiography, Women’s Labour and  Textile History, Modern Indian History.

Biography: Maia Barkaia comes from an interdisciplinary educational background such as Oriental Studies, History and Gender Studies. These academic fields shaped her research interests. In 2016 she was an visiting researcher at the Lady Marget Hall, Oxford University.
